
IPLAI in partnership with the Salon 1861 is offering creating writing workshops for youth (ages 10-13). Workshops welcome youth with a diverse range of abilities, and from a diverse array of ethnicities, genders and backgrounds.
Students will workshop in a variety of creative media (such as, for example, Blackout poetry, journalling, productive brainstorming, spoken word, etc.) The workshop series aims to:
-bring a sense of ownership and value to youth in their creative production
-improve creative writing and creative expression skills
-build confidence in youth in their abilities to express their ideas
-build camaraderie among youth in the class
-engage youth over a longer period of time
-make the Salon and its Laboratory of Urban Culture programming a cultural hub in the Little Burgundy community.
